Romano Floriani Mussolini, the great-grandson of Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, scored his first goal at senior level.
But it is not so much this that is noteworthy, as the reaction of the Italian fans – as journalists from Corriera dello Sera report, the fans at the stadium joyfully “zieg” when the commentator announced the name of the goal scorer.
Mussolini’s great-grandson belongs to Lazio
The 21-year-old right-back, whose value Transfermarkt estimates at 500 thousand euros, distinguished himself for Juve Stabia, a club in the second Italian division. But he has been playing there on loan since the beginning of this season, and Mussolini’s full rights belong to Lazio.
This is ironic (and everyone managed to laugh at this in 2021, when Romano first got into the youth team of the Romans), since Lazio is considered to be the Duce’s favorite club. This myth was later dispelled – Benito probably didn’t root for anyone at all – but it didn’t make Mussolini’s presence in Rome any less comical.
