Chickenpox is a disease caused by Varicella zoster, a type of herpes virus. Almost all people at different ages get sick, but only once in a lifetime. Most often, it is diagnosed in children, so all parents need to know the symptoms and treatment recommendations.
Brief information about the symptoms and development of chickenpox
This is a viral infectious disease. Those who have had it develop lifelong immunity. Chickenpox is contagious and is transmitted by airborne droplets. Its outbreaks often occur in children’s groups. The virus easily moves through the air and can remain viable outside the human body for some time.
At the same time, an infectious child may not show signs of the onset of the disease.
Stages of development:
- Incubation period. The virus enters the body, but there are no signs of the disease.
- Prodromal. It can be asymptomatic, but most often there is a deterioration in general health.
- The period of appearance of the rash. On average, it lasts 5-6 days, new rashes appear daily.
- Recovery. The symptoms subside, the sores heal and become covered with crusts.
- On average, chickenpox lasts 2-3 weeks. Everything depends on the state of the immune system, the severity of the disease, and the age of the child.
Even if many people around are sick, the signs of chickenpox in children do not always appear. Most often, those with weakened immunity or after hypothermia become infected.
